For thousands of years, humans have used various preparations of embryonic cells in an attempt to slow of reverse the aging process. The current view is that embryonic tissues contain several factors that act on specific cellular receptors, including growth-factor receptors, and can amplify the response of these cells to various stimuli.

A HOST OF BENEFITS

An extract prepared from chicken embryos, contains short amino acid chains ("oligopeptides"), plus additional essential amino acids, trace elements (iron, copper, cobalt, selenium and zinc), and insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF-1) and (IGF-2). Natural Growth Factors were isolated and studied by researchers from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania, where it was registered first in 1993 as a food additive and two years later as a dietary supplement. Chicken embryo extact has been tested in animals as well as several human clinical investigations. The human studies mostly utilized individuals older than 35. According to the authors who reported the results, Chicken embryo extract works as a general tonic and stimulates the adrenal gland, normalizing its function. Other than the brain, the most important target organs for adaptogens are the adrenal glands because of all the hormones they produce (adrenaline and noradrenaline, plus androgens, estrogens, glucocorticoids and mineral corticoids). The adrenal hormones reportedly normalized by chick embryo extract include the 17-ketosteroid sulfates (17KS-S) and the 17-hydroxycorticosteroids (17-OHCS). Under stressful conditions the body's ability to adapt declines and the stress hormones (principally l7-OHCS) rise while the beneficial hormones (17-KS-S) decrease.

Since 17-KS-S have been show to enhance tissue functions (including those in muscle, skin, the gastrointestinal track and the vascular, nervous and immune systems), lipid metabolism and even memory, any supplement that could beneficially affect 17-KS-S would be valuable. According to the manufacturer, clinical studies conducted in Europe Bucharest showed that chick embryo extract raises 17-KS-S level as much as 68%. The amount of 17-KS-S in our body decreases with age and illness. 17-KS-S can also drop in response to as little as one night's lack of sleep. In addition to the adaptogenic effect, the embryo extract also possesses antioxidant properties that would benefit anyone seeking to mitigate free-radical damage and slow down degenerative processes.

There have been no reported side effects of chicken embryo extract.
