Description: Paracetamol possesses pronounced analgesic and antipyretic properties. Its anti-inflammatory effect is clinically insignificant. The mechanism of action of the preparation is connected with suppression of prostaglandin synthesis through inhibition of specific cerebral oxygenases, as well as with inhibition of bradykinin – susceptible receptors. It is supposed, that the enzymes in CNS connected with the pain and the temperature are stronger inhibited than that in the periphery, which explains the weaker anti-inflammatory action. The antipyretic effect is due to impact on hypothalamic centers, regulating the temperature. The intensive pain in smooth muscle organs of the visceral cavity is not affected. Paracetamol is similar to aspirin with respect to analgesic and antipyretic effects, but it does not express the adverse effects of the latter.
Paracetamol is used for the treatment of pains and /or temperature conditions of various character: headache, toothache, mild and moderate post-operative and post-traumatic pains, viral and infectious diseases (acute catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, flu, rubella, morbilli). |
